Better Than Viagra: Key Sex Therapy Skills for Generalists

Thursday, November 6, 2008: Sacramento, California
Saturday, November 8, 2008: Berkeley, California
Saturday, December 13, 2008: Orange County (Costa Mesa) California

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. * 6 C.E. Hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Most people don't go to sex therapists for help with their sexual problems. Instead, these issues come up-sometimes almost as an aside-during individual counseling, marriage counseling, or appointments with other health care professionals. The immense need for addressing sexual problems is indicated by the prevalence of prescriptions for medications like Viagra. Fortunately, counseling can often be more helpful in addressing sexual issues than medication-particularly when sexual problems are rooted in emotional and relationship issues.

TOPICS

-Erectile Dysfunction

-Orgasmic Difficulties

-Partner Differences

-Sexual Compulsivity

-The Relationship Roots of Sexual Problems

-Reviewing the Therapeutic Themes

GOALS
At the conclusion of this program you should be better able to:

1. Demonstrate the essential skills for effectively treating the most common sexual problems.

2. Describe the attachment insecurities that perpetuate-and are perpetuated by-common sexual problems.

3. Describe how to effectively address factors like medications and pornography that may contribute to sexual difficulties.

4. Teach clients how to recognize the nervous system's "fight or flight" response and how to ease back into "feed or breed" mode.

5. Approach treatment in a way that incorporates improvements in sexual technique while cultivating relationship security and chemistry.

6. Respond to sexual concerns in a relaxed, good-natured way that can help clients feel freer and more playful in their sex lives.
